West Bank Raids Intensify as Gaza Struggles to Recover From Devastating Storm

Israeli forces carried out a series of overnight and early-morning raids across multiple cities and refugee camps in the occupied West Bank on Monday, escalating tensions as the Gaza Strip continued to reel from the destructive aftermath of a powerful winter storm.

According to Palestinian local sources, Israeli troops entered several areas including Jenin, Nablus, Ramallah, and Hebron, conducting house-to-house searches, detaining dozens of residents, and engaging in clashes with local youths. Armored vehicles and military bulldozers were reportedly deployed in densely populated neighborhoods, causing damage to roads, homes, and public infrastructure. Palestinian medical officials said several people were injured during confrontations involving live fire, rubber bullets, and tear gas.

The Israeli military said the raids were part of “counterterrorism operations” aimed at arresting individuals suspected of involvement in militant activities. However, Palestinian officials accused Israel of collective punishment, warning that the sustained incursions are deepening humanitarian and security crises in the West Bank.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, attention remained focused on recovery efforts after a severe storm battered the enclave over the weekend. Torrential rains and strong winds flooded low-lying areas, destroyed makeshift shelters, and displaced hundreds of families—many of whom were already living in temporary housing due to months of conflict and shortages of construction materials.

Gaza’s civil defense agency said emergency crews were overwhelmed, struggling to drain floodwaters amid fuel shortages and damaged infrastructure. Aid organizations warned that contaminated water, exposure to cold, and lack of medical supplies could worsen health conditions, particularly for children and the elderly.

Palestinian officials drew a direct link between the crises in Gaza and the West Bank, arguing that ongoing military pressure and movement restrictions are undermining any meaningful recovery or stability. “While Gaza drowns under rain and rubble, the West Bank burns under raids and arrests,” a Palestinian Authority spokesperson said.

International reactions remained muted, though several humanitarian groups renewed calls for de-escalation and unimpeded access for aid deliveries. As conditions deteriorate on both fronts, analysts warn that the convergence of military operations and environmental disaster risks further inflaming an already volatile situation across the Palestinian territories.
